Air-gapped hardware wallet from Hong Kong, fully open source

Keystone is a hardware wallet: a physical device that keeps your private keys offline and signs transactions without touching the internet. The brand is developed and operated by Yanssie HK Limited, incorporated in Hong Kong under registration number 3021685 and business registration number 72718566, according to the About page of keyst.one, checked on 5 August 2026. The project began in 2018; the company was formally incorporated in 2021, and its terms fall under Hong Kong law.

The defining trait is the air gap. There is no USB data port, no Bluetooth, no Wi-Fi and no NFC. The device talks to your phone only through QR codes read by its camera, or through a microSD card. Transaction details appear on a 4-inch touchscreen before you approve, so contract addresses and token approvals can be read rather than guessed at.

Firmware and hardware are 100 per cent open source, so the running code can be audited by anyone. The hardware adds three secure element chips, fingerprint verification and an anti-tamper self-destruct design that erases data if the case is forced. Shamir backup splits a recovery phrase into several shares, and a separate bitcoin-only firmware build shrinks the code base and the attack surface for bitcoin holders.

No financial licence sits behind Keystone, and none is required. The company states it does not store or control your coins, has no access to your keys, and cannot start a transaction for you. A firm that never holds customer money falls outside the authorisation regimes built for exchanges, so the absence of a regulator here follows from the design rather than pointing to a gap. The other half of that bargain is equally plain in the terms: lose your recovery phrase and nobody, Keystone included, can restore the funds.

Devices delivered from 1 January 2025 carry a one-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects. Extended Keystone Care+ cover costs 50 USD for two years or 100 USD for three. The site advertises a 20 per cent discount for Ledger owners who switch across. Support runs by email only, at support@keyst.one. Keystone advises buying through official or authorised channels, which is sound advice: a second-hand signing device is never worth the saving.
