The bitcoin savings brand whose terms disclaim being licensed at all

Swan Bitcoin sells disciplined bitcoin accumulation: one-time and recurring buys, retirement accounts (Swan IRA), collaborative multisig cold storage (Swan Vault), guided self-custody and private-client services. Checked 2026-08-21, its fee page says buys cost 0.50% — though read on.

The corporate reality lives one layer down. The contracting company is Electric Solidus, Inc., named once, deep in the terms, under California law — never in the footer. And those terms are unusually frank: Swan does not transmit money and does not "represent that it is licensed, regulated, or insured to provide financial services". Everything regulated — trading, custody, settlement — happens at third-party Custodians, with whom "your legal, regulatory, and contractual relationship" exclusively sits. Swan is the interface; the licensed party is someone else.

The 0.50% buy fee deserves its own asterisk: the page's body text states it flat, while the hero on the same page marks it as a promotion "through September 8" — the base rate is 1%. Sells cost 1%; withdrawals of bitcoin and cash are free, always. Custody options range from $0 (self-custody) to $25-30 monthly tiers for Vault and Sovereign.

For UK readers there is a simpler catch: the site does not address international availability at all, names no UK entity, and offers California arbitration. Bitcoin is "not subject to the protections of any federal or state insurance programs, such as the FDIC", its terms note — and there is no FSCS equivalent to reach for either.
