The oldest bitcoin pool, and the free firmware behind it

Braiins operates what its pool page calls the longest running bitcoin mining pool, hashing since 2010. The same page, checked on 8 August 2026, reports a pool hashrate of 13.91 EH/s, 177,359 active workers and 13,112 active users, plus an all-time total of 1,294,383 BTC mined through it. Those are its own counters, published live rather than audited by anyone else.

Rewards use FPPS. The pool describes each payout as the block subsidy plus transaction fees, on a daily, weekly or monthly cycle chosen by the customer, and it offers Lightning payouts alongside ordinary on-chain ones. Identity verification is advertised as not required. The headline pricing claim is "0% fees with Braiins OS", meaning the pool charge is waived for rigs running its own firmware; anyone hashing with stock firmware should read the published fee schedule before pointing machines anywhere.

The firmware is the other half of the business. Braiins OS is an operating system for mining devices, given away free under the GNU General Public Licence version 3, so its source can be inspected. Braiins OS+ is a proprietary tier that does carry licence fees. Farm Proxy is proprietary but free, and is credited with cutting data traffic between a farm and its pool by 95 per cent. The firm also maintains Stratum V2 and runs an annual mining conference in Prague.

Two legal entities matter here, and they sit in different places. Braiins Systems s.r.o. develops the tools and is registered at Krizikova 148/34, Karlin, Prague 8, under identification number 241 47 931 and file C 183056 at the Municipal Court in Prague. The pool itself is run by Braiins Mining Limited, a British Virgin Islands company numbered 2038702 with an office at Road Town, Tortola. A dispute about missing payouts therefore lands offshore, not in the European Union.

Neither a mining pool nor a firmware vendor takes deposits or arranges investments, so no financial authorisation applies to this activity and its absence carries no meaning at all. What is worth checking instead is the payout scheme, the effective fee once firmware licensing is counted, and which of those two companies your account actually faces. All three are stated openly on its pages.
