Hosted mining in the United States, where all sales are final
Compass Mining sources bitcoin machines and places them inside third-party data centres, so a customer owns hardware they will probably never touch. Its front page, read on 8 August 2026, claims 5.9 EH/s under management across 20 hosting facilities totalling 160.0 MW, more than 10,000 customers and over 100,000 machines sold. It says deployment can begin within 48 hours of purchase.
The most quoted number on that page deserves slow reading. A 95 per cent uptime guarantee appears in large type with an asterisk, and the footnote explains that the figure is delivered through a combination of miner uptime and service level credits for excessive downtime, adding that actual uptime may vary. Shortfalls, in other words, may be settled in account credit rather than in hours of hashing. The binding detail sits in a separate Hosting Agreement.
Section 6 of the terms is blunter still: all sales are final, and no refunds will be issued under any circumstances once a purchase completes. Everything supplied is offered on an "as is" and "as available" basis with implied warranties of merchantability and fitness disclaimed. For a purchase running into four figures, that clause belongs on the checklist before payment, not afterwards.
There is an exit route, and it is a resale one. Owners can list a machine on the company Marketplace for other buyers, which the firm presents as avoiding any long-term lock-in, though nothing guarantees the price it fetches. Around that sit repairs, an upgrade programme, prepaid credits, automatic billing and instalment plans on eligible hardware, with early settlement stated to attract no extra charge and any additional costs disclosed at checkout.
The counterparty is Compass Mining Inc., at 251 Little Falls Drive, Wilmington, Delaware. Disputes are adjudicated under Delaware law in a Delaware court, and customers waive the right to bring or join any class or representative claim. Brokering hosting capacity is not regulated financial business and no licence is expected for it, so the documents that really bind a buyer are the Hosting Agreement and the Hardware Agreement rather than any register entry.
