Recap is a British crypto tax calculator. The business behind it is Recap Technologies Limited, company number 11218777, started in 2018 by two co-founders who wanted something shaped around British rules. Its output aims at self assessment: capital gains and income figures following current HMRC guidance, including share pooling and the bed and breakfast rule, ready to copy onto the SA108 pages.

Billing is annual and quoted in pounds, never per report. Basic is £119 a year and covers up to 5,000 transactions. Pro is £219 a year with no transaction ceiling and adds CSV exports. Company is £349 a year, aimed at businesses holding treasuries, and adds a balance sheet, a chargeable gains statement, ten-day matching rules and defined accounting year ends. Every tier carries unlimited integrations and historic years at no extra charge.

One detail businesses should pin down first. The £349 Company figure is shown ex VAT on the pricing page, viewed on 5 August 2026, and the same page keeps a question about exactly that among its frequently asked questions, so budget above the headline. Privacy is the design decision that sets this apart, and it carries a real cost. Portfolio data is encrypted on your own device with AES-256-GCM before it reaches the servers, using a secret phrase the firm does not keep. Links to trading venues are read-only. Lose that phrase and the encrypted portfolio is gone permanently, because nobody at Recap can restore it.

On authorisation, be precise. Recap publishes a registration with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference ZB735084. That is a data protection entry, not permission from any financial authority, and it should not be read as one. No financial licence is claimed, and a calculator that never touches client funds would not need one. Accountants have their own plans, and any subscriber can grant an adviser access.
