A free tier, three paid tiers and two refund windows
ZenLedger pulls activity in from exchanges, wallets and chains, reconciles it in a resolution centre, and turns the result into filing documents plus a single spreadsheet view of every line. It advertises a free plan on the home page and repeats the claim in its own feature list, describing industry-leading pricing with a free crypto tax software plan. What the rate tables show, however, is only the three paid tiers; neither the inclusions nor the transaction allowance of the free option appears there. Treat the word free as an invitation to register rather than a specification.
The paid range is clear enough. As its pricing pages read on 8 August 2026, listed per year in US dollars, Silver costs 49 for up to 100 transactions, Gold costs 199 for up to 5,000, and Platinum costs 399 for up to 15,000, with unlimited transactions available as a 600 dollar uplift that includes an hour of live support. Buying several years at once takes 10 per cent off. All three tiers carry the same feature set instead of gating it by price: an audit report, accountant access at no charge, a choice of highest-in first-out, first-in first-out or last-in first-out accounting, unlimited exchanges, mining and airdrop cover, loss-harvesting and a TurboTax link.
Human help is priced separately and steeply. A 60-minute consultation with an enrolled agent costs 275 dollars, general product consulting is 150 dollars an hour, and a prepared return runs at 2,800 dollars for a single year against a listed 3,500, or 5,200 for two years against a listed 6,500. The company notes that these packages are priced on time required, that the estimates may rise with your circumstances, and that the software is sold separately. A partnered filing option starts at 30 dollars a year and carries a 30-day money-back guarantee.
One detail should be settled in writing before you commit. The same pricing page carries two different refund promises: a block under the plan menu says all plans offer a generous one-year refund policy, while the paragraph beneath the tier table says all ZenLedger plans have a 14-day refund policy. The prepared-plan section is explicit that professional packages allow 14 days and that the company reserves the right to refuse a late request. Two windows on one page is not a small gap, and it is the buyer who carries the difference.
Everything here points at the United States. The paperwork it produces is Form 8949, Schedule 1 and Schedule D, the alerts cover FinCEN and FBAR reporting, and the guidance is written around Internal Revenue Service rules, down to the wash sale position and the 3,000 dollar income offset. HMRC appears nowhere in the pages captured, so a UK filer should treat this as a United States tool first and check what it produces. Support is quoted as running from 9am to 9pm Eastern, seven days a week, by chat, email, telephone or video.
On safety, the company says its information security programme follows the SOC 2 Type II framework, that it commissions independent penetration testing at least annually, that records are encrypted at rest and in transit, that two-factor authentication is available and that it pays bounties for reported flaws. There is no financial authorisation to look for here, and none is needed: the tool reads records and writes reports, and holds nobody's coins. A separate enterprise arm sells blockchain analytics, forensic accounting, background checks and a data ingestion interface to institutions and government bodies.
