Melbourne exchange since 2013, far cheaper on the pro tier
Sign up outside Britain and your counterparty is CoinJar Australia Pty Ltd, ACN 648 570 807, at 805/220 Collins Street, Melbourne. That company holds an AUSTRAC registration as a digital currency exchange provider, number DCE100749118-001. Residents of the United Kingdom, Jersey, Guernsey or the Isle of Man are redirected to a separate British terms document. The homepage adds that the business is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority for anti-money-laundering purposes, a narrower status than conduct authorisation.
Two price lists exist and the gap between them is wide. Inside the app, turning cash into crypto, crypto into cash or one coin into another costs 1%, while Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay all cost 2%. Recurring buys sit at 1% by card. On CoinJar Exchange the same trades open at 0.10% taker and maker, sliding to 0.06% and 0.02% above six million dollars of thirty-day volume; coin-to-coin pairs run 0.06% taker with makers free. Pound deposits and withdrawals over Faster Payments cost nothing.
The Mastercard product is free to issue, has no monthly charge, hands back 1% as Rewards points in shops and online, and charges 2.99% on foreign transactions plus 1% at cash machines. One catch lands squarely on British holders: clause 10.4 states that users residing in the United Kingdom are unable to access CoinJar Rewards. A disputed card transaction costs 27.50 dollars.
On storage, the risk section commits to keeping at least 90% of all cryptoassets, customer holdings included, in cold, multi-signature or multi-party computation wallets, naming BitGo and Fireblocks as the technology partners. Part of that balance sits with BitGo Trust Company, which carries limited insurance. The same passage is candid that the policy does not extend to every balance and covers neither unauthorised access to your account nor transfers you approved yourself.
Where a grievance ends up is worth knowing before you deposit. The terms state that CoinJar is not a member of the Australian Financial Complaints Authority and that customers cannot take disputes there, apart from matters concerning the card. Its own wording flags security risk and says cryptoassets carry high risk. Support answers Monday to Friday, 9am to 2am Australian eastern time. All of the above comes from coinjar.com as it read on 5 August 2026, alongside claims of trading since 2013, more than 800,000 customers and 60-plus coins.
